Gael Garcia Bernal Biography
Gael Garcia Bernal's first major feature role was in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's critically acclaimed Amores Perros, which was nominated for the 2001 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won the 2000 Canal Plus Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Most recently, Bernal has been cast as Winona Ryder's love interest in the soon-to-be-released Lily andthe Secret Planting. He has also appeared in Sin Noticias de Dios, starring Penelope Cruz, Dreaming of Julia, starring Harvey Keitel, and in the role of Che Guevara in the Showtime mini-series Fidel. Bernal has had parts in several short films, notably a leading role in Antonio Urrutia's 1998 De Tripas Coprazon, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. Like Diego Luna, Bernal began his acting career in Alejandro Reyes and Teresa Suarez's play, El Rapio de las Estrellas, and was later cast in the TV soap opera El Abuelo y Yo at the age of 12. Bernal lives in London where he is currently studying acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
